Offense shines in wins over Columbus State and Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, GA - The bats were hot on Friday for the Bears, as they combined for 34 hits in wins over Columbus State and #16 Young Harris. Lenoir-Rhyne took down Columbus State 15-6 in the opener before defeating the host Young Harris 14-8 in the nightcap. 

Mackenzie Wainwright is proving the D2Baseball Preseason All-America voters correct, as over the course of the two games he went 6-for-10 with six RBI's, five runs scored, two doubles, and a home run. Sal Carricato notched just the second two-run home run game of his career in the win over Young Harris, going yard in the first and second innings to bring his career total to 31 long balls.

GAME ONE INFO:
  • Leadoff hitter Mackenzie Wainwright opened the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. 
  • Wainwright extended LR's lead in the third with a 2 RBI double to left center.
  • Thanks to two defensive errors on one play, the Bears went up 4-0 after four.
  • The Lenoir-Rhyne advantage extended to 6-0 in the fifth thanks to an RBI triple from Michael Logan and sac fly from Nathaneal Keeter.
  • The Bears blew open the game with a seven-run sixth inning, thanks to RBI's from six different players.
  • Highlighting the inning was Michael Logan's second triple of the game.
  • The Bears scored two more runs in the final two innings to give the game it's final 15-6 score.
  • Five Bears notched double-digit hits, with Joseph Mozingo and Wainwright leading with three each.
  • Andrew Harlow (2-0) was lights out in the win, allowing just one hit in six innings while striking out seven.
GAME TWO INFO:.
  • The Bears opened up an 8-0 lead after two innings, thanks in part to two long balls from Sal Carricato.
  • After hitless third innings from both teams, Lenoir-Rhyne pushed their lead to 10 in the fourth thanks to RBI's from Cole Stanford and Joseph Mozingo.
  • Owen Blackledge extended the lead to 11-0 in the fifth with an RBI single to score Mackenzie Wainwright.
  • Wainwright accounted for all three runs for the Bears in the seventh, hitting a 2 RBI single and scoring on a passed ball just a few batters later.
  • Hickory's own Gavin Marley shut down the side in the bottom of the ninth to secure the six-run victory.
  • All nine starters notched a hit for the Bears, and seven recorded an RBI. 
  • Wainwright led the way by going 3-for-6 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
  • William Girardi (1-0) fanned eight batters in five innings to get the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • After only having two Bears record multi-triple games since 2015, both Michael Logan and Joseph Mozingo have done it this season.
  • Sal Carricato is just six home runs away from breaking the Lenoir-Rhyne career home run record.
  • These were the Bear's first wins over both programs.
