Women's Basketball defeat Newberry 73-64 on Senior Day

HICKORY, NC - Blaikley Crooks scored 20 points and Emily Harman scored 13 as the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team defeated Newberry 73-64 on Senior Day on final game of the 2024-25 season. With 20 points today, Crooks moved past Tracy Naidas for 5th on all-time scoring list as she finished her career with 1,624 points. Harman with her 13 points finished as the third all-time scorer in program history with 1823 points. 

Prior to the game Lenoir-Rhyne honored seniors Abby Wrede, Tilda Lindstroem, Megan Landsiedel, Emily Harman, and Vanessa Jurewicz

The duo of Harman and Crooks will finish their careers as the #1 and #2 all-time leaders in free-throw % in program history, as Harman will finish at the top with a 84.8% while Crooks is in second with a 80.8%.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • A back and forth first quarter saw the Wolves hold an one-point advantage after 10 minutes of play.
  • The Bears flipped the script as LR in the second and took a 27-26 at the half. Lenoir-Rhyhe held Newberry to just 30% shooting from the floor in the frame. 
  • A Sarah Burton lay-up with 3:50 left to go in third quarter give the Bears their biggest lead at 42-35. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne scored the first four points of the 4th quarter to extend their lead to eight.
  • LR hits 9 of 12 free throws in the quarter to win 73-64. 
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Bears shot 13-27 from the floor in the second half after shooting just 37% in the first half. 
  • Alexandra Merceron finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. 
  • The Wolves did out rebound the Bears 44-33 on the day led by 17 from Jess Tomkins. 
  • LR shot 20-23 from the free-throw line. 
  • The Bears had 30 points off the bench today, led by 10 from Merceron and eight from Vanessa Jurewicz
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • The teams split the season series this year as the home team won both games. 
  • Tilda Lindstroem is 4th all-time in program history with 105 blocks.
  • Harman also went cross the 450 career assist mark today and will finish third all-time with 451 career assists.
