Baseball opens weekend with 8-2 victory over Tusculum

HICKORY, NC - Sal Carricato hit his 18th home run of the season on Friday, which ties him with teammate Mackenzie Wainwright and Tyler McPeak for the top of the record book as Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball took game one against Tusculum Pioneers 8-2 in the final home SAC series of the year.

With Carricato's home run and Michael Logan bomb the Bears also tied the SAC record with 95 home run of the season. The Bears tied the 2002 mark set by Carson-Newman. The Bears sit an incredible 51 home runs ahead of the second place team in the conference, Lincoln Memorial.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Bears jumped out early with a single run in the first and second before putting up a pair in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead after three. 
  • After Tusculum cut the lead to 4-2, the Bears responded with runs in the 5th, 7th and 8th innings to take the game 8-2.
  • Andrew Harlow moved to 8-0 on the mound with six innings of work allowing just two runs and striking out four.
  • Randan Rigdon and Michael Ribis threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
  • Sal Carricato finished with his second four hit game of the season as he also added three RBIs.
  • Eli Willen had his 7th multi-hit game of the year with a 2-for-4 performance.
  • Michael Logan homered for the second straight game.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bears snapped their three game losing streak against the Pioneers.
  • Despite being on base four times, Mackenzie Wainwright's 32 game hit streak was snapped today. He went 0-for-1 with three walks, two of them intentional. 
  • Harlow is 11 strikeouts away from being third pitcher in program history with 100 strikeouts in a single season. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will conclude the weekend series tomorrow with a 1:00 first pitch. Tomorrow is also Senior Day, with a pregame ceremony starting at 12:05 PM.
