Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball advances to Super Regional with 11-3 win over North Georgia

BELMONT, NC - For the first time in their program's long history, the Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball team will advance to the NCAA Super Regional. The Bears reached supers by doing what they do best, hitting home runs, as they mashed five long balls in an 11-3 win over North Georgia. 

The Super Regional will be a rematch of last week's SAC Championship series as the Bears will travel to Salisbury, N.C., to take on the top seeded Catawba Indians. It is a best-of-three series that will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (if necessary).

STORY OF THE GAME
  • North Georgia struck first, plating a run in the second to go up 1-0 on the Bears.
  • The lead was short lived as the Bears hit three home runs in the bottom of the second inning.
  • Michael Logan hit a solo shot while Mackenzie Wainwright and Cole Laskowski each hit two-run blasts.
  • Wainwright opened up the fourth inning with his second home run of the game and 24th of the season.
  • Sal Carricato had an RBI double and Cole Stanford went yard for the third straight game to extend the lead.
  • Hogan Stallings closed out the fourth inning scoring with an RBI ground out to score Eli Willen.
  • The pitching was solid for both teams the rest of the game as the Bears took this one by eight.
STATS OF THE GAME BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • 46 wins is tied for the most in school history (2022).
  • Owen Blackledge broke the single-season school record for walks (52) with his three walks today.
  • The Bears are just five home runs away from tying the NCAA DII single-season home run record of 131. 
  • Thursday will be the 120th all-time meeting between Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba will face off for the fifth time this season on Thursday in Salisbury for the first game of Super Regionals. It is a best-of-three series and each game will take place at 6:00 p.m. at Catawba. The Bears won the first matchup between these two teams this season before the Indians took the last three. Catawba will be looking to qualify for their second straight World Series while the Bears are looking for their first. More information on this weekend's games will come out later this week.
