Brown sets Division II record; Thatcher and Marr named earn All-American Second Team status

PUEBLO, CO - Alexis Brown cannot be stopped. The junior from Georgia set smashed the NCAA Division II 200 meter record with a time of 22.35 in her prelim, breaking the record of 22.62 set by Danielle Williams in 2013.

This makes Brown the third fastest collegiate 200 meter runner this season as she sits just behind South Carolina's JaMeesia Ford (22.01) and Southern California's Madison Whyte (22.32). She now owns the NCAA DII 100 and 200 meter records and will be looking to sweep those titles tomorrow afternoon.

Finishing up the multis were seniors Oliver Thatcher and Miranda Marr. Both were named Second Team All-Americans as Thatcher finished in 10th and Marr in 11th. Thatcher finished with a total of 6793 points, the second best total of his career. The highlight of his day was a 4.60m (15-1.00) mark in the pole vault, which set a new personal best. He is the third All-American multi in Bears history. Marr finished with 4894 points, the third best mark of her career. Battling the heat and altitude, she powered through to a near personal best time of 2:23.21 in the 800 meters to pick up 780 big points. She was the first female multi to ever qualify for the NCAA National Championships and thus becomes the first All-American multi in Lenoir-Rhyne history.

The busiest LR athlete of the meet, Damyja Ortiz, took part in the 200 meters and 4x400 meter relay. She ran a time of 24.04 in her 200 meter prelim, the third fastest time of her career. She joined Sharonda Priester, Jani Day, and Mathilde Etienne in the 4x400 meter relay, where they finished with a 3:44.12.
