PUEBLO, CO -
Alexis Brown is unstoppable. The junior from Mableton, Georgia, became the first woman in NCAA Division II history to go under 11 seconds legally in the 100 meter dash, running a wind-legal (+1.8) time of 10.93. This is the fastest collegiate time of the season and the second fastest time in the world this year.
Her second national championship of the day came in the 200 meters, which took place roughly an hour following the 100. Brown flew around the curve and ran a time of 22.37, winning by nearly half a second. This was just 0.02 seconds slower than yesterday's record breaking time in the prelims. This marks her first outdoor 200 meter national title after winning three on the indoor stage.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team consisting of
Zanetta Udo-Obong,
Damyja Ortiz,
Sharonda Priester, and
Alexis Brown finished seventh with a time of 45.28. This marks the first All-American honor for everyone but Brown and the second straight year a Lenoir-Rhyne women's 4x100 meter relay team has qualified for the final.
The Bears finished the weekend with two national championships, two NCAA DII records, and seven All-Americans. As a team the women finished with 22 points, putting them in a solo 12th place in the meet.
