Preston Sangley signs with Lenoir-Rhyne Cross Country/Track & Field

HICKORY, N.C. - The No. 1 ranked senior in the state of Florida, Preston Sangley, has committed to the Lenoir-Rhyne cross country/track & field programs.

Coached by Doug Horn at Spanish River high school in Boca Raton, Sangley went on a tear during his senior season. He won the FHSAA Class 4A State Cross Country individual championship with a 5K time of 15:22.5 (4:56.9/mile), helping lead his team to a third place finish. He then ran a 15:02.48 to finish ninth at the Brooks South XC Championships, qualifying him for the Brooks XC National Championships.

On the track he is ranked seventh nationally in the mile and 10th in the 800. His personal best mile time of 4:04.95 took place on May 22nd at the Southeast Meet of Champions, where he won the event. He won the 800 at the prestigious Pepsi Florida Relays with a time of 1:49.64 in early April, making him the fastest senior in the state of Florida in both the mile and 800. At the FHSAA Class 4A Track & Field Championships on May 9th, Sangley competed in four events, winning two of them. He took home individual titles in the 800 and 1600, was part of a runner-up 4x800 team, and was third in the 3200, just 0.05 off first place.

"Preston is going to be great for us at Lenoir-Rhyne," said Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Bob Braman. "He versatility will make him dangerous across the board, both in cross country and track & field. He's the kind of kid who will step on campus and immediately make an impact."
