Three second half-goals lift Bears in SAC opener

HICKORY, N.C. -  For the second straight game, The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer team scored three times in the second half as the Bears came back to take down Lincoln Memorial 3-1 to open conference play.

Nicole Auger scored the first and last goals of the half while Alexis Cagno scored the game winner as the Bears closed their four-game home stand with a 3-1 record.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Lincoln Memorial scored their lone goal in the 5th minute off a free kick.
  • The game remained 1-0 until the 65th minute when Katie Durham found Nicole Auger wide open in front of the net for the equalizer.
  • Alexis Cagno then connected on what would be the game winning goal in the 70th minute.
  • Auger then give the Bears an 3-1 lead when she blocked a Railsplitter pass and then beat the goalie for her second goal of the game. 
  • LR out shot the Railsplitters 17-7 as the Bears only allowed one more shot on goal after the early LMU score.
  • Bears also had 7-1 advantage on corner kicks this afternoon. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Bears have a six game unbeaten streak against LMU and are 5-0-1 in their last six games against the Railsplitters. 
  • Cagno's goal was her first ever game-winning goal. 
  • Auger's goals were the seventh and eighth of her career. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will take their first road trip of the year next week as LR will head down to Columbus, Georgia, to face #18 Columbus State. The Cougars are coming off a year where they reached the final four, but are off to a 1-2 start in 2025. Columbus State will travel and play Eckerd on Sunday before hosting the Bears on Wednesday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
