Six-goal first half propels Bears past Bobcats

HICKORY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne came out on fire and took down Lees-McRae 6-0 on Sunday afternoon. All six goals were scored in the first half, with four of them coming in the final 10 minutes of the frame.

This was the largest margin of victory for the Bears since they took down Coker 7-0 in 2023.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Lucia Hidalgo scored her second goal of the season in the 22nd minute.
  • Six minutes later Ava Hartman found the scoreboard thankts to a perfect through ball from Mya Rivera.
  • In the 35th minute Katie Durham took advantage of a scrum in the box off a free kick to put in LR's third goal of the game.
  • Kaitlyn Marcinowski pciekd up a brace, scoring two goals in a three-minute span, including a beautiful goal straight off a corner kick.
  • Alexis Cagno ended the scoring with a late header goal with 10 seconds left in the half.
  • The second half saw each team buckle down defensively as there were just five shots in the entire half.
  • The Bears led 19-4 in shots and 10-0 in shots-on-goal.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Bears are now 16-3-1 all-time vs. Lees-McRae, with their last defeat coming in 2003.
  • This was a homecoming for Bobcat Head Coach Cally Morrill, who coached the Bears in 2012 and 2013, winning two SAC Coach of the Year awards.
  • 30 Bears saw the field in this one.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne also scored six goals against Lees-McRae in a 6-1 win back in 2019.
The Bears will be back in action this Wednesday when they host UNC Pembroke. The Braves come into the matchup 0-1 after suffering a 4-2 defeat against #12 North Georgia on Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
