HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's soccer team celebrated its seniors on Saturday with a rain soaked 2-0 win over No. 6 Anderson, giving the Trojans the first lost of their season.
It was seniors
Oskar Dahlberg and
Xairo Villalon who produced the goals for the Bears, with Dahlberg scoring midway through the first half and Villalon late in the second.

STORY OF THE MATCH:
- Anderson held possession for the first 15 minutes before Lenoir-Rhyne flipped a switch and put up five shots in an eight minute span.
- The final of those five shots found the back of the net, as Oskar Dahlberg flicked in a pass from Hector Taboada to put the Bears up 1-0.
- Liam Prendergast picked up a late save and had some key punch outs to keep it a 1-0 Bear lead at the break.
- The Bears sat back and defended for much of the second half.
- Anderson had chances, but Prendergast made four key saves in the second 45.
- Xairo Villalon scored on a 65-yard solo run with 59 seconds remaining in the contest.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
- Anderson out-shot the Bears 13-12 and held a 6-3 lead in shots-on-goal.
- Raul Canas led the team with four shots while Xairo Villalon led with two shots-on-goal.
- Liam Prendergast made a career high six saves in the contest.
- There were five yellow cards in the game, three to the Bears and two to the Trojans.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Lenoir-Rhyne leads the all-time series 10-9-8.
- The Bears have not lost to the Trojans since a 1-0 defeat in 2019.
- This was just the fifth game in the series that had more than a one goal difference.
- Lenoir-Rhyne sits in seventh in the SAC standings, while Anderson dropped to fourth.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will hit the road for the final two games of the regular season. The Bears next contest will be on Sunday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Greeneville, Tennessee, to take on Tusculum. The Pioneers are 1-8-1 (0-5-1 SAC) and fell 1-0 to Wingate earlier today. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
