Women's Soccer falls to nationally ranked Catawba

HICKORY, N.C. - The #6 Catawba Indians scored a goal nine minutes into Wednesday night's game and held on the rest of the way for the 1-0 victory over the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne out-shot Catawba 15-9, including a big 10-4 edge in the second half.

STORY OF THE MATCH:
  • The first shot of the game was a Catawba goal off the foot of Kennedy McGuire in the ninth minute.
  • Aya Elshafi and Lucia Hidalgo each had long shots hit the post in a span of 10 minutes midway through the opening half.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne out-shot Catawba 5-4 in the first half with both teams putting two shots on goal.
  • The Bears saw three consecutive shots in a three minute span early in the second half saved by keeper Lauren Zitt.
  • Zitt made the biggest save of the day when she stopped a Lenoir-Rhyne penalty kick in the 52nd minute.
  • The Bears made a push late but only managed one clean shot in the final 25 minutes of the game.
