HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball dropped a pair of games on Saturday to #3 Catawba. The Catawba Indians took the opener 8-6 then defeated the Bears 9-1 in the night cap.
Matt Procopio stayed hot with a pair of hits in each game as
Sylas Boris went yard in game one.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
- The teams traded runs early as it was 1-1 heading to the bottom of the third when the Bears scored three times thanks to a Sylas Boris RBI double and a two-run single from Andrew Stillinger.
- After that it was all Catawba, scoring the game's next seven runs to take a 8-4 lead.
- The Bears cut that lead into half with a two-run home run from Boris in the bottom of the 8th.
- LR had the winning run at the plate in the ninth but Catawba's Joe Burleyson got the final out to preserve the 8-6 victory.
- Hugo Tafoya got the no decision in five innings on the mound while Preston Drebes (3-1) took the loss in relief.
- Mackenzie Wainwright led the Bears with three hits while Matt Procopio, Stillinger and Boris each had a pair.
STATS OF GAME TWO:
- This one was all Catawba as they scored three times in the third and four times in the fourth before adding single runs in 5th and 6th inning.
- Stillinger got the Bears only RBI with his single in the fourth to score Wainwright.
- Kellen Gradisar (3-1) suffered his first lost of the season on the mound.
- Luke Elmore stuck out the side in his clean inning of relief.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Sylas Boris' home run tied him for the team lead at four with Seth Christmas.
- This series loss snaps a six game SAC home series win streak.
- Lenoir-Rhyne had a season high four errors in game one today.
UP NEXT: Bluefield State comes to Durham Field for a mid-week double header on Tuesday. The Big Blue is 3-3 on the season and has not played since splitting a double header with UVA-Wise on Wednesday. First-pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
