Procopio's three home runs highlight Bears sweep of Coker

HICKORY, N.C. - Matt Procopio become just the third player in program history to hit three home runs in one game as he hit three bombs in the Bears' 11-1 game two victory over Coker.

In the opener, Sylas Boris and Mackenzie Wainwright both homered in a four run seventh as LR defeated the Coker 11-8 to start the day.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
  • The Bears jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings as Andrew Muraco got the Bears on the board with a two-run jack in the first. 
  • Coker cut the lead in half with a three run fourth inning. 
  • Boris and Wainwright both homered in the 7th inning to help LR extend the lead to 10-3.
  • LR was looking to cruise to end but the Cobras responded with an five-run eighth inning to cut the Bears lead to just two.
  • Last night's hero, Nathan Kidder, extended the lead with a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. 
  • Michael Joyce earned his first save of the year getting the final six outs for the Bears.
  • Michael Burnley picked up the win with 3 2/3 innings out of the pen. 
  • Boris and Conor Linkfield each had three hit games for the Bears while Wainwright and Muraco combined for five RBIs. 

STORY OF GAME TWO:

  • Seth Christmas opened the scoring with a two-run double and Boris had a RBI bunt single to give LR an early 3-0 lead. 
  • After that it was the Procopio show as he hit a three-run home run in the 3rd inning to start his afternoon.
  • Procopio then added a 417 foot blast to lead off the fifth inning. 
  • His third home run was a 422 foot home run to left center, a two-run shot. 
  • Linkfield and Boris added RBI hits as LR cruised to 11-1 victory for the sweep. 
  • Kellen Gradisar (4-1) went the distance for his third complete game of the season, allowing just one unearned run. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bears have won seven in a row against Coker. 
  • Craig Seizmore (2001) and Wade Cuda (2022) were the other two Bears player to hit three home runs in a single game. 
  • Gradisar won his 20th career game to become just the seventh player in program history with 20 career wins. 
  • LR jumped from 4th to 2nd in the SAC standings today thanks to losses by Newberry and Wingate. 
UP NEXT: LR will head to Barton for a mid-week game on Tuesday afternoon. Barton is struggling this season but completed the sweep against Chowan today, which moved the Bulldogs to 7-17 on the year. First-pitch from Wilson, N.C. is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
