MARS HILL, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball team rebounded for a 9-1 victory in the first game of today's doubleheader.
Mackenzie Wainwright went deep twice while
Nathan Kidder added a solo home run.
Hugo Tafoya allowed just two hits while striking out a season-high ten in 5 1/3 innings.
Since the first game today had a lengthy rain delay in the sixth inning, the final game of the series was halted in the sixth inning with the score tied at five.
Seth Christmas and
Sylas Boris hit home runs for the Bears in the night cap.

STORY OF GAME ONE:
- Bears scored a single run in the first four innings before scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and eight innings. LR added a single run in the ninth for the 9-1 victory.
- Wainwright hit a solo home run in the third inning while added a two-run shot in the eighth.
- Kidder home run was a solo shot in the third inning. He also had an RBI single earlier in the contest.
- Hugo Tafoya threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits while striking out a season high ten. Tafoya had to come out due to the lengthy stoppage from the rain.
- Luke Steward finished the game throwing 3 2/3 allowing just one unearned run. Since Steward pitched the last three inning he earned the save.
- Five Bears in the starting lineup had two hits including Xavier Mann, who went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs.
STORY OF GAME TWO:
- The Bears scored three times in the first, highlighted by a two-run bomb from Christmas.
- Mars Hill then scored the next four runs to take a 4-3 lead until Boris jacked a two-run shot in the fourth.
- Game remained tied until the teams headed to the bottom of the sixth as play could not be continued due to darkness.
- Boris was 3-3 in this shortened game.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Wainwright got his 99th and 100th career RBIs in the opener today.
- Game one ended a four game stretch where the Bears did not have double digit hits.
- Game two was halted at 6:45 pm due to darkness.
UP NEXT: USC-Aiken comes to Durham Field for a mid-week game on Wednesday. The Bears defeated the Pacers 11-8 on February 25th. Game-time is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
