Men's Lacrosse topples Tusculum 19-5

GREENEVILLE, TN - The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears made quick work of the Tusculum Pioneers on Wednesday, defeating the home side 19-5. 

This game, originally scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., didn't start until 8:15 due to weather delays. 

Donovan Powell scored four goals for the second straight game and tied a season high with three assists. Caleb Haire and Eli Busse each picked up their first career hat tricks.

STORY OF THE GAME
  • Lenoir-Rhyne led 2-1 after a low scoring first quarter.
  • Eli Busse scored twice and Donovan Powell once in a 30 second span early in the third to extend the lead to four.
  • Sloan Steward scored late in the half and Lenoir-Rhyne was up 8-2 at the break,
  • The first six goals of the third quarter were scored by the Bears.
  • The Bears outscored the Pioneers 5-1 in the fourth to give the game it's final score.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • 10 Bears saw the scoresheet, led by Powell's four.
  • Jarrett Huff had two assists, giving him multiple assists for four straight games.
  • Owen Peters made five saves in the win.
  • The Bears were 21-28 on faceoffs, led by Matthew Mancini's 8-11.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne out shot Tusculum 67-19 and forced the Pioneers into 30 turnovers.
  • The teams were a combined 0-5 on extra man opportunities.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Jarrett Huff passed Ben Corrigan for seventh on the all-time assist list with 64.

  • The Bears sit in a tie for third with Anderson in the conference standings. The Trojans defeated Newberry 17-13 earlier tonight.
NEXT UP: Lenoir-Rhyne will host Emory & Henry on Saturday in Moretz Stadium. The Wasps are 1-9 (0-5 SAC) and dropped a 17-9 contest to Mars Hill today. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
