Women's Lacrosse defeats Tusculum 19-7

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne women's lacrosse team have now won four of their last five games with today's 19-7 win over Tusculum. 

The Bears now sit at 6-1 in conference play and face off against a strong 12-1 UVA Wise squad on Saturday for senior day.

Kirra Olson (3g, 2a) and Abbey Walker (2g, 3a) led the Bears with five points each. Freshman Jillian Daley was tops on the team with four goals.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Jessica Mikesell got things going for the Bears with the team's first two goals of the game.
  • After the Pioneers tied things up at 3-3, Lenoir-Rhyne closed the opening quarter on a 3-0 run to lead 6-3 after one.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne dominated the second quarter, out scoring Tusculum 6-0 and winning all but one draw control.
  • Mikesell and Kirra Olson scored the first two goals of the second half before the Pioneers finally got one back to make it 14-4 Bears.
  • The Bears won the third quarter 4-2 and the fourth 3-2 to grab the 12-goal victory.
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Six Bears posted more than one goal while nine scored in total.
  • Hailey Larsen led the team with nine draw controls.
  • Anneleise Meyer had four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
  • Sally Friesen made three saves in the victory.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne out shot Tusculum 42-20 and led 17-11 in draw controls.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne is 11-0 all-time against the Pioneers.
  • Sally Friesen's win today was the 20th of her career. She ranks third all-time in LR history in that category.
  • This marks the Bears second consecutive 6-1 start in conference play.
NEXT UP: The Bears will host UVA Wise for senior day on Saturday. The Cavaliers are having a stellar season, sitting at 12-1 (6-0 SAC) after their 22-7 win over Lincoln Memorial earlier today. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Moretz Stadium.
