Hickory, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse team had to hold on to upset #23 Anderson on Saturday afternoon inside the bricks.
The Bears held a 10-5 lead after three quarters before Anderson made a furious fourth quarter comeback, scoring goals in the first four minutes of the frame. The Trojans had a shot on goal in the final minute but a huge save by
Sally Friesen kept the Bears up one. LR then forced Anderson into a turnover in the final seconds to capture their fourth ever win over a ranked team.Â
Kirra Olson had four goals while
Abbey Walker had a goal and a three assists to lead the Bears. Lenoir-Rhyne's defense had 18 caused turnovers in the game, led by six from
Delaney Williams.Â
The win also means the Bears clinch a bye in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament and go straight to the semi-finals. That game will take place on Wednesday, April 29th, against the winner of the #3 and #6 matchup.
