Men's Lacrosse closes regular season with 19-5 win against Coker

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's lacrosse team closed out their regular season on Tuesday with a convincing 19-5 win over visiting Coker. 

Donovan Powell (3g, 3a), Owen Scott (5g, 1a), and Jarrett Huff (4g, 2a) led the team with six points each. 

The Bear finish their regular season slate with a 10-3 (7-2 SAC) record and will host a SAC quarterfinal game on Saturday at Moretz. Time and opponent will be determined later this week.

STORY OF THE GAME
  • Jarrett Huff scored the opener just over a minute in.
  • Coker held Lenoir-Rhyne scoreless for over nine minutes of play before the Bears scored five goals in four minutes to close the quarter.
  • Cooper Starcke and Morgan Madish opened the second quarter with two goals in just over a minute.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne held a 10-2 lead at the half.
  • The Bears outscored the Cobras 4-3 in the third, and Jarrett Huff and Owen Scott combined to score four of Lenoir-Rhyne's five fourth quarter goals.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • Owen Scott's five goals led the team while Jarrett Huff was just behind with four. 
  • Donovan Powell was tops with three assists.
  • Mac Murphy caused four turnovers.
  • Owen Peters made nine saves to pick up his seventh straight win.
  • The Bears out shot the Cobras 54-35 and held a 34-16 edge in shots-on-goal.
  • Coker had 23 turnovers compared to just 12 for Lenoir-Rhyne.
