Men's Soccer battles to draw with Lee

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's soccer team picked up their first point of the season on Wednesday, picking up a 1-1 draw with Lee. 

The Flames got on the board first, but a Raul Canas header in the 33rd minute locked the teams even at one.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Lee was on the offensive early, putting up three shots in the first 10 minutes of action. 
  • The Flames scored on their fourth shot, with Thomas Lee Stift tapping in a rebound off a save from Mason Cranford
  • Lenoir-Rhyne turned it up after the goal, putting up three shots themselves.
  • In the 33rd minute Oskar Dahlberg went for a bicycle kick, which was off the mark but right to the head of Raul Canas, who put it in to tie the game.
  • The teams went into the break tied at one.
  • The second half saw 13 combined shots and four on goal. 
  • Cranford kept the Bears in the game, making huge saves in the 62nd and 71st minute. 
  • Nothing ever materialized for the Bears, with their last shot coming in the 76th minute. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • This was the first ever meeting between these two teams. 
  • Canas' goal was the 12th of his career.
  • The Bears have not lost a home opener since a 3-0 defeat to Limestone in 2019.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will turn their sights to Saturday when they host No. 19 Carson-Newman in the conference opener for both teams. The Eagles, who previously defeated Nova Southeastern and tied No. 12 Palm Beach Atlantic, fell 1-0 to Trevecca Nazarene earlier tonight. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Moretz Sports Athletic Complex Soccer Field.
