Biography

Lenoir-Rhyne University (2025) - Made seven appearances on the mound for the Bears...Pitched six innings and faced a total of 30 batters....Generated eight strikeouts and three walks. 

UNC-Asheville (2024) - Made two appearances, totaling 1.2 innings as a senior...Tossed one inning at Georgia on Feb. 17. 

UNC-Asheville (2023) - During the 2023 season, Bates appeared in 18 games and made three starts for the Bulldogs...In 23 innings pitched, Bates posted a 1-2 record with a 6.26 ERA with 20 strikeouts...He held opposing hitters to a .279 batting average in 2023...He picked up the win over Radford in mid-May...Pitched more than one inning in six of his 18 appearances...Tossed a season-high 2.2 innings at Charleston Southern at March 17.

UNC-Asheville (2022) - In his first season as a Bulldog, Bates made 19 appearances all of which were out of the bullpen...His 19 appearances were tied for second on the team...His 19 appearances covered 21 innings and he totaled 14 strikeouts...Made his Asheville debut on February 19 at Virginia Tech...Logged a pair of scoreless appearances vs. Niagara in late February to help the Bulldogs win that series...Had six appearances where he pitched more than one inning...His longest outing of the season was 2.1 innings, which he achieved twice at Longwood and at Radford.

High School - Bates was a dominant pitcher at Currituck County High School finishing his prep career with a 0.66 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .187 batting average...Additionally, Bates was a three-time All-Conference pick in high school, two-time All-State selection to along with Area Player of the Year and Conference Player of the Year plaudits...Before transferring to Asheville, Bates spent one season at Delaware State where he posted a 2-5 record with a 6.82 ERA in 64.2 innings pitched...His best outing for the Hornets came on April 16 vs. North Carolina Central where he pitched eight innings allowed eight hits three runs (one earned) to go with 10 strikeouts.
