A former two-year starter at Lenoir-Rhyne, Jay Goldsmith enters his first season on the coaching staff after being named assistant coach in August 2018. Goldsmith returns to Hickory after coaching stints at Catawba and Methodist.
A 2015 graduate of LR, Goldsmith appeared in 30 games and racked up 88 points on 68 goals and 20 assists. He added 52 ground balls, including 37 his senior season. Goldsmith was a Second Team All-Conference selection in 2014 and an Honorable Mention All-Conference pick in 2015. He finished his career with the school's single-game goal record with seven and was drafted by the Charlotte Hounds of the MLL.
Prior to playing for the Bears, Goldsmith played two years for NCAA Division III power Lynchburg College. As a Hornet, Goldsmith saw action in 29 games and scored 15 goals while adding 10 assists.
Goldsmith began his collegiate coaching career with Methodist in 2017 and helped guide the program to a 15-3 record and a SEILC Conference Tournament Championship. The Monarchs were a perfect 8-0 at home that season and averaged 14.2 goals per game.
Goldsmith graduated with a degree in health and physical education in 2015.
