Juan Basabe joined the Lenoir-Rhyne Soccer coaching staff in 2024 after a successful four-year playing career with the Bears.
In four seasons at LR, Basabe played and started in 50 games at the goalkeeper position. For his career, he notched a record of 27-12-8, including 18 shutouts and a 0.96 goals against/average. His 0.92 goals against/average in 2023 ties him for third all-time in LR history for a single season. Basabe was named to the 2020-21 SAC All-Conference Second Team and racked up multiple SAC Defensive Player of the Week honors during his career. Prior to his time at LR, Basabe played his freshman year at Wayland Baptist University.
A native of Durango, Spain, Basabe played with his hometown club and made his debut with the first team in the third tier of Spanish Soccer. Along with his spanish career, he also played for NC Fusion and Lionbridge FC, broadening his network in the soccer world.
Basabe graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in May of 2023 with a double Bachelor's in Business Management and Marketing. In 2024, he graduated from LR with a Master's in Business Administration. He currently resides in Hickory with his wife.
