Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (5-4-1, 1-1) lost its second straight?match by the same margin as it fell to South Atlantic Conference-foe Carson-Newman (5-3-1, 3-1), 2-1, Saturday night at McCown Field.
After a scoreless first half, Carson-Newman got on the board just 1:12 after the break when Omar Cooke (Roanoke, Va.) headed in a throw-in by Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.) to put the Eagles up by a 1-0 score.
The Bears scored the equalizer five minutes later when Oriol Cortes (Barcelona, SPAIN) headed home a John Ferguson (Fife, SCOTLAND) cross into the back of the net to make it 1-1.
Carson-Newman?s Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, ENGLAND) tallied the game-winner, however, as he netted a pass from Daniel Zitt (Morristown, Tenn.) at the 67:36 mark.
L-R outshot Carson-Newman by an 8-6 margin but was only able to capitalize on one opportunity.
Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) made two saves in the win for Carson-Newman while Tom Heath (Solihull, ENGLAND) tallied three saves for L-R despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne stays on the road this Wednesday to continuing South Atlantic Conference play as it takes on Catawba in Salisbury, N.C.? Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
