L-R Women's Soccer Busts Open The 2009 Season With A 5-0 Victory On The Road Over Barton

Wilson, N.C. - Opening on the road can be difficult, but on Thursday in?its 2009 debut, the Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Soccer Team (1-0) enjoyed an offensive explosion against host Barton College (0-1) with five goals in the second half to capture a 5-0 shutout win over the Lady Bulldogs.

L-R freshman Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) broke a scoreless tie in the 48th minute with a chip from about twenty yards.? However, it was Shannon Agnew (Alpharetta, Ga.) who would lead the Bears as she posted a hat trick.

Agnew scored goals in the 66th, 68th and 76th minutes of action.? Chermaine MacLachlainn (Tobermory, SCOTLAND) served the ball to the middle for the first goal and Agnew scored from 20 yards. Then Agnew finished a perfect pass from Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla.) sent from just outside 18 yards, giving L-R a 3-0 advantage. Agnew made it 4-0 twelve minutes later on a dandy left-footed flick on a low cross from Hawes.

Rebecca Lin (Northridge, Calif.) provided the finale as she headed in a 35-yard serve from Kaelia Frazier (Cedar Falls, Iowa).

The Bears enjoyed a 17-0 shot advantage and a 9-0 margin in corner kicks.? Angelina Lovette made 12 saves for Barton in her collegiate debut.

L-R returns to action in its home opener on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., as it plays host to UNC Pembroke at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
