Barton Men's Soccer Upsets Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-1

Hickory, N.C. - The Barton College Men's Soccer Team (4-8-1) scored with under 13 minutes remaining to pull off a 2-1 upset win over Lenoir-Rhyne University (8-6) Tuesday afternoon at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

The Bulldogs' Matthew Arnold (Henderson, N.C.) scored the game-winner after receiving a pass from Erik Pajunk (Rio De Janeiro, BRAZIL) on the run at the top of the box and placing the ball in the back of the net.

Pajunk opened the scoring after finishing off a shot from about 25 yards out in the 27th minute.

L-R quickly tied the match at one just under two minutes later when freshman defender Sean Rogers (Dublin, IRELAND) received a quick pass from freshman forward Chibuzo Nwosu (Macon, Ga.), who was in front, and scored for his fifth goal of the year.? Nwosu, L-R's leading scorer, was credited with the assist.

The contest remained one-all until Arnold's score late in the match.?

Barton's goalkeeper, Brian Riesenberg (Fort Thomas, Ky.), picked up the win after stopping nine shots.? L-R senior Tom Heath (Solihull, ENGLAND) suffered the loss despite totaling eight saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne steps back into South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when it takes on Wingate in Wingate, N.C., beginning at 7 p.m.? Barton, meanwhile, returns home to face Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday at 3 p.m.
