Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Overwhelms Catawba, 7-1

Salisbury, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (12-1-1, 7-0) remained perfect in the South Atlantic Conference with a 7-1 win over Catawba College (6-6-2, 2-4-1) Wednesday evening at foggy Frock Field.? Six different players scored for L-R, who took a 5-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.

The Bears, alone atop the league standings with two conference contests left, won for the first time ever on the road against the Indians.? L-R also stretched its unbeaten streak to 12 matches (11-0-1 during the span).

L-R senior midfielder Audrey Moore (Dublin, IRELAND) opened the scoring just 8:56 into the match after finishing off a pass from freshman midfielder Denesha Soto (Dale City, Va.).

Lenoir-Rhyne then broke the contest open with a pair of goals within three minutes of each other by All-American sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) and junior midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) at the 14:44 and 16:56 marks of the first half, respectively.

Junior midfielder Kaelia Frazier (Cedar Falls, Iowa) and junior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) rounded out the scoring for Lenoir-Rhyne in the first half.

An own goal and freshman midfielder Michelle Persichina's (Virginia Beach, Va.) first goal of her L-R career rounded out the scoring for the Bears, who held a 21-5 advantage in shots.? Senior forward Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) added two assists for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Catawba's Erinn Wescoat (Egg Harbor, N.J.) scored the Indians' lone goal with just over 10 minutes left in regulation.

Sophomore Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) played a scoreless first half to pick up the win in goal for L-R while Catawba?s goalkeeper, Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, Mass.), suffered the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road this Saturday when it travels to Wingate, N.C., to take on Wingate in a key South Atlantic Conference match beginning at 4 p.m.? Catawba hosts SAC-rival Tusculum Saturday at 4:30 p.m.? In the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll, Lenoir-Rhyne sits in fifth place while Wingate is ranked seventh.
