Anderson, S.C. - The Anderson University Men's Soccer Team (12-5-1) ended Lenoir-Rhyne University's (10-8) season with a 1-0 win in overtime Wednesday in the Quarterfinals of the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament at Trojan Field.
Anderson is the third seed in the tournament while Lenoir-Rhyne was seeded sixth.
Anderson advances to face the winner of the No. 7 Catawba and No. 2 Carson-Newman first round match on Friday in the tournament semifinals at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C., beginning at 6 p.m.
After a scoreless 90 minutes, Anderson's Lasse Sohrweide (Flensburg, GERMANY) ended the match with his team-leading 13th goal of the year 4:38 into the first overtime.? Sohrweide scored from the left side from about 10 yards out off a pass from Ben Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio), who was credited with the assist.
Anderson, which avenged a regular season loss to L-R, held a 16-7 advantage in shots taken for the match.
The Trojans' Lukas Hesse (Berlin, GERMANY) picked up the shutout win in goal as he made three saves.?
Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Tom Heath (Solihull, ENGLAND) suffered the loss despite allowing just one goal while stopping five Anderson shots.
