Mount Olive, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (5-1) increased its winning streak to four matches with a 3-1 victory over Mount Olive College (3-4-1) Tuesday afternoon at Amon Field.? Mount Olive's Cara Paxson (Cincinnati, Ohio) opened the scoring in the 21st minute when she scored from 10 yards out off an assist from Caroline Smith (Lumberton, N.C.).? The shot would be the Trojans only one of the?evening as the Bears finished with a 22-1 advantage in shots taken.
L-R tied the contest at the 37:20 mark of the first half when Holt scored off a breakaway after winning the ball off a goal kick.
The Bears took the lead for good in the 67th minute when sophomore midfielder and All-American Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) scored in the box off a pass from junior midfielder Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla.).
Holt closed out the scoring for the Bears less than six minutes later with a header into the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the year.? L-R Senior midfielder Audrey Moore (Dublin, IRELAND) played a restart at the top of the right corner of the box to set up Holt for the goal.
Lenoir-Rhyne redshirt freshman Rebecca Ingram (Buford, Ga.) picked up the win in goal while Mount Olive's Megan Robeson (Jacksonville, N.C.) suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne, ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll, travels to Winter Park, Fla., to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday at 7 p.m.? Mount Olive remains at home to face Queens on Saturday at 7 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas showdown.
