Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (6-1) came from behind with two goals in the second half to defeat Belmont Abbey College (2-4-2), 2-1, Saturday night at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.? L-R, which rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit, pushed its winning streak to five matches.
Belmont Abbey scored the lone goal in the first half when Matt Dolan (Barnsley, ENGLAND) finished off a shot from 30 yards out from the top of the key in the 32nd minute.
L-R, however, tied the game at one at the 63:27 mark of the second half when junior forward Nicky Matthews (Bradford, ENGLAND) received a free kick from sophomore midfielder Oliver Worth (Sheffield, ENGLAND) right in front of the net and chipped it in for the goal.? Worth was credited with the assist on the play.
In the 77th minute, L-R freshman defender Sean Rogers (Dublin, IRELAND) turned and fired the ball right into the net off a cross-bar shot by senior forward Dave Bailey (Bath, ENGLAND) for the game-winner.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 25-12 advantage in shots taken while senior goalkeeper Tom Heath (Solihull, ENGLAND) picked up the win after allowing just one goal to go along with four saves.? Belmont Abbey's John Max Bolling (Lawrenceville, Ga.) suffered the loss despite stopping nine shots in goal.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Milligan (Tenn.) on Tuesday beginning at 3:30 p.m.? Belmont Abbey, meanwhile, plays at Queens on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
