Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Rolls Over Newberry, 7-0

Newberry, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (5-7-1, 1-4) received a hat trick from sophomore defender Sean Rogers (Dublin, IRELAND) en route to a 7-0 victory over Newberry College (5-8, 1-5) Saturday afternoon for its first South Atlantic Conference victory of the season.

The Bears tallied a season-high in goals and snapped a two-match losing streak in the process.

L-R sophomore forward Chibuzo Nwosu (Macon, Ga.) opened the scoring with a goal in the 24th minute.? Nwosu scored off his own rebound for his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Rogers scored the first of his three goals at the 42:25 mark of the first half when he headed in a cross from junior midfielder Oliver Worth (Sheffield, ENGLAND).

L-R junior defender Chris Johnson (Liverpool, ENGLAND) scored just 33 seconds remaining before halftime on a free kick.

Rogers tallied back-to-back goals on penalty kicks early in the second half and the rout was on.

An own goal and a goal by senior forward Daniel Jones (WREXHAM, WALES) rounded out the scoring for the Bears, who held a 25-6 advantage in shots taken en route to the win.

Sophomore Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) and freshman Ashley Peyton-Bruhl (Brackley, ENGLAND) combined on the shutout for the Bears.? Newberry's Joel Johnson (Sangre Grande, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO) suffered the loss in goal.

Lenoir-Rhyne next takes on Queens on the road in Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday night beginning at 7:30 p.m.? Newberry faces St. Andrews Monday in Laurinburg, N.C., with the?start time set for 4 p.m.
