No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Gets By Queens, 2-1

Junior forward Carley Griffin scored the game-winning goal and added an assist for sixth-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne in a 2-1 victory over Queens Tuesday night in Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (13-1) came from behind to defeat Queens (5-9-1), 2-1, Tuesday night as the Bears rallied once again in the second half to prevail.? L-R, ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II, scored the match's final two goals in the second half after falling behind by a 1-0 score.?

In addition, the Bears also increased their school-record winning streak to 12 matches.

L-R junior forward Carley Griffin (Fresno, Calif.) scored the game-winner in the 76th minute, her team-tying ninth goal of the season.

Queens broke a scoreless tie just 29 seconds into the second half when Sami Striano (Clearwater, Fla.) scored off an assist from Hope Hartman (Buies Creek, N.C.).

Lenoir-Rhyne tied the score at one at the 62:47 mark when junior All-American midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) tallied a goal off a double assist from Griffin and senior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) before Griffin's game-winner.

L-R junior goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) was credited with the win as the Bears held a 22-7 advantage in shots taken.? Queens goalkeeper, Megan Hirschy (Fort Wayne, Ind.), suffered the loss despite tallying 11 saves on the night.

L-R returns home to face Wingate (11-2, 6-0) in a South Atlantic Conference showdown on Saturday at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex beginning at 5 p.m.? Queens plays at King (Tenn.) next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
