Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Ties Catawba, 1-1

Salisbury, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (7-8-2, 3-4-1) battled Catawba College (7-8-2, 2-4-2) to a 1-1 tie Wednesday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at Frock Field.

The match was scoreless until the 78:45 mark of the match when freshman midfielder Zach Carles (Leesport, Pa.) scored his third goal of the season after cleaning up a corner kick and finding the back of the net from five yards out to give Lenoir-Rhyne a 1-0 lead.

Catawba, however, quickly, tied the match at one just 40 seconds later thanks to Corey Faughnan (Jacksonville, N.C.).? Faughnan headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Carson Smith (Mooresville, N.C.), who was credited with the assist.

Neither squad was able to find the back of the net in the 20 minutes of extended time as the match ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

L-R freshman goalkeeper Ashley Peyton-Bruhl (Brackley, ENGLAND) allowed just one goal in 110 minutes while tallying?a pair of?saves and the Bears held an 8-5 advantage in shots for the contest.

Evan Harvey (Apex, N.C.) allowed just one goal as well for Catawba in addition to making four saves for the Indians.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to host Tusculum on Senior Day in a South Atlantic Conference match at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex Sunday beginning at 2 p.m.? Catawba plays at Brevard in its regular season finale Saturday at 4 p.m.
