Freshman Hayley Beattie scored three times for Lenoir-Rhyne University in a 21-5 loss to Pfeiffer University at home Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.

Hickory, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University Women's Lacrosse Team (1-0) dealt Lenoir-Rhyne University (0-2) a 21-5 loss Saturday morning at Moretz Stadium.

Pfeiffer's Liz Melesh (Annapolis, Md.) and Shannon Bonnel (Mechansville, Md.) each scored four times while Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, Md.) added three goals and two assists to lead the Falcons to the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by freshman Hayley Beattie (Washington, N.J.) with three goals while sophomore Sarah Minick (Marietta, Ga.) and freshman Rachel Hall (Durham, N.C.) also scored for the Bears despite the loss.

Pfeiffer jumped out to a 7-0 advantage en route to a 13-3 lead at intermission and never looked back.

The Falcons also held a 33-14 advantage in shots taken and 24-17 edge in ground balls in prevailing in its 2011 season opener.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Amanda Cotto (Fort Myers, Fla.) finished with seven saves while Pfeiffer goalkeeper Kaitlin Booth (Winter Springs, Fla.) stopped four shots.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home next Saturday when it hosts Notre Dame (Ohio) at Moretz Stadium beginning at 11 a.m.? Pfeiffer hosts Belmont Abbey Wednesday at 3 p.m.
