Due West, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Lacrosse Team (2-4) picked up its second win in school history with a 17-7 victory over Erskine College (1-3) Saturday evening at Huggins Field.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by freshman Rachel Hall's (Durham, N.C.) team-high four goals while freshman Hayley Beattie (Washington, N.J.) added three goals and three assists for the Bears.
Erskine's Lauren Burdick (Greenville, S.C.) and Savannah Nunn (Sacramento, Calif.) scored two goals each in the loss.
Early in the second half, the Flying Fleet scored three straight goals to cut the Bears' lead to 9-6 but Lenoir-Rhyne answered with four consecutive goals to put the match out of reach.
Sophomore Sarah Minick (Marietta, Ga.) also scored three times in the match and now has a team-leading 20 goals on the season for the Bears, who held a 36-27 advantage in shots taken.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman goalkeeper Amanda Cotto (Fort Myers, Fla.) stopped 10 shots in picking up the win while Erskine's Kaitlyn Overley (Columbia, S.C.) tallied 17 saves in goal despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Urbana (Ohio) on Monday at Moretz Stadium beginning at 5 p.m.? Erskine hosts Southern New Hampshire on Monday at 3 p.m.
