Gaffney, S.C. - The Limestone College Men's Soccer Team (1-0) opened the 2011 season by shutting out Lenoir-Rhyne University (0-1), 1-0, Thursday afternoon at Saints Field.
The Saints' Thomas Metzemaekers (Groningen, NETHERLANDS) scored the lone goal of the match in the 66th minute of the second half to help Limestone prevail.
Metzemaekers connected in the upper left corner of the net on a pass from Bryce Ziada (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA), who was credited with the assist.
Limestone's H.B. Lockwood (Anderson, S.C.) picked up the shutout victory in goal after stopping seven Lenoir-Rhyne shots including the possible game-tying goal with less than three minutes remaining in the match.
Limestone held a 15-11 advantage in shots taken while Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) suffered the loss despite allowing just one goal to go along with three saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road Saturday when it travels to Wilson, N.C., to face Barton beginning at 7 p.m.? Limestone next plays at Lander Saturday at 7 p.m., as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne's first home?contest will take place on Wednesday, September 7, against Lees-McRae at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex at 7:30 p.m.
