Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (2-3) made it two wins in a row with a 1-0 victory over North Georgia (2-2-1) Wednesday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
L-R junior forward Sven Picton (Lenoir, N.C.) scored the lone goal of the match in the 80th minute when he broke free down the left side on a counter attack and finished off a pass from sophomore midfielder Mehmet?Karakilinc (Lanester, FRANCE) with a shot into the top corner of the net.
Karakilinc?was credited with the assist while the goal was Picton's first of his Lenoir-Rhyne career.
North Georgia held an 18-4 advantage in shots taken but Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) kept the Saints scoreless with the shutout win.
Dill stopped six shots including the potential game-tying score with just under two minutes remaining in the contest.?
The Bears also shut out their second straight opponent.
North Georgia's Rade Tanaskovic (Barzilovica, SERBIA) suffered the loss in goal despite allowing just one goal.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play Saturday against Anderson on the road beginning at 3:00 p.m.? North Georgia next hosts UNC Pembroke Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
