Hickory, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne (5-5-3, 2-3-2) and Carson-Newman (6-4-2, 4-1-2) played to a 1-1 tie in men's soccer after two overtimes Saturday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless first half, L-R finally broke through in the 65th minute when freshman forward Tobias Tobrant (Boras, SWEDEN) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Tobrant took advantage of a misplay by a Carson-Newman defender and notched the goal in an empty net.
The Bears held the 1-0 advantage until the Eagles forced overtime when Sindre Welo (Trondheim, NORWAY) scored with just 5:02 remaining in the second half.
Lenoir-Rhyne was able to force the one-tie despite Carson-Newman holding a 30-15 advantage in shots taken.
In goal, L-R junior Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) finished with 17 saves on the night while Carson-Newman's Rumwald Le Guevel (London, ENGLAND) stopped two shots.? Both players allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of action.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays on the road against Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C., on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.? The Bears also celebrated Senior Night prior to the contest.?
