No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne Shuts Out Queens, 4-0, In Women's Soccer

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman forward Garcelle Alequine scored twice to lead the 19th-ranked Bears to a 4-0 victory over Queens Wednesday night at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex in Hickory, N.C.

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (8-1), ranked No. 19 in NCAA Division II, shut out Queens (4-6-1), 4-0, Wednesday night in a non-conference contest at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

Freshman forward Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) scored twice to lead the Bears, who won their fifth consecutive match.

L-R freshman forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) opened the scoring just 1:16 into the match with her team-leading eighth goal of the year.

The contest remained 1-0 until the second half when Lenoir-Rhyne broke the match open with three goals.

Alequine gave the Bears a 2-0 lead by taking advantage of an open goal on a cross right in front of the net by freshman midfielder Kendall Smith (Asheville, N.C.).

Junior forward Ariel Dominguez (Annapolis, Md.), who assisted on L-R's first goal, pushed the Bears' lead to three with a score in the 68th minute.? Dominguez kicked in a saved shot for her second goal of the year.

Alequine rounded out the scoring in the 73rd minute while senior Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) and sophomore Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.) combined on the shutout in goal for the Bears.

Queens' goalkeeper, Emily Mager (Lawrenceburg, Ky.), took the loss despite tallying 12 saves but the Bears held a 35-6 advantage in shots taken.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home on Saturday when the Bears face Brevard in a South Atlantic Conference match at 5:00 p.m., while Queens hosts league-foe Barton Saturday at 5:00 p.m., as well.
