Montreat, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (4-4-2) won its third match in a row with a 5-1 road victory over Montreat (2-7-1) Wednesday afternoon at Cavaliers Field.
Senior defender Chris Johnson (Liverpool, ENGLAND) and sophomore forward Mario Pinos Garcia (Guayaquil, ECUADOR) each scored twice to lead the Bears to the win.
Pinos Garcia opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match that proved to be the game-winner for the Bears.
L-R went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage after freshman forward Santiago Asprilla (Gastonia, N.C.) tallied his first goal of the year in the 15th minute of action.
Johnson scored two of the Bears' three goals in the second half while Silas Alves (Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL) tallied the lone goal for Montreat at the 52:22 mark.
Both Pinos Garcia and Johnson have three goals on the year for the Bears, who have now evened their record.
In goal, Lenoir-Rhyne junior Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) picked up the win after allowing just one goal to go along with five saves while Montreat's Lucas Carvalho (Joao Pessoa, BRAZIL) suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne will take on Brevard in a South Atlantic Conference match on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex. Montreat, meanwhile, travels to Laurinburg, N.C., to face St. Andrews on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
