Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Falls To Queens, 10-5, In 2012 Season Opener

Lenoir-Rhyne University junior Sarah Minick scored twice in a 10-5 loss to Queens University in the Bears' 2012 season opener Wednesday evening in Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Lacrosse Team (0-1) opened the 2012 season with a 10-5 loss to Queens University (1-0) Wednesday evening at the Queens Sports Complex.

Queens? Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y.) led the way with a match-high three goals while Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md.) and Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, Va.) added two goals each to lift the Royals to the win.? Casey also assisted on a pair of goal as well.

L-R lost despite two goals from both junior Sarah Minick (Marietta, Ga.), last year?s team-leading scorer, and freshman Mary Minick (Marietta, Ga.).? Freshman Lauren Donovan (Hollywood, Md.) added a goal for the Bears as well.

Sarah Minick scored twice for Lenoir-Rhyne in the first half as the Bears fell behind a 4-2 score entering halftime.

Mary Minick cut the margin to 6-5 with a free position goal at the 20:24 mark of the second half but Queens took over from there by scoring the match's final four goals.

The Royals held the advantage in shots taken (36-13) and ground balls (33-26) while Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) picked up the victory in goal.? Lenoir-Rhyne freshman goalkeeper Allison Senft (Marietta, Ga.) took the loss despite stopping 13 shots on the evening.

Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Catawba in its home opener on the year Saturday inside Moretz Stadium beginning at Noon.? Queens plays at Erskine on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
