Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Wins Sixth In A Row, 17-11 Over Converse

Lenoir-Rhyne University freshman Kirsten Smith scored a match-high five goals in a 17-11 win over Converse College Tuesday evening at Hayden Abney Fulp Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (7-2) won its sixth straight match with a 17-11 victory over Converse (3-3) Tuesday evening at Hayden Abney Fulp Field.

L-R freshman Kirsten Smith (Dunkirk, Md.) led all scorers with five goals while sophomore Hayley Beattie (Lebanon, N.J.) added two goals and two assists to lead the Bears to the win.

The Bears also picked up their first road victory of the 2012 season.

Brianna Hoffman (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Sam Green (Burlington, Mass.) each scored three goals for Converse despite the loss.

The Bears jumped out to a 7-1 lead midway through the first half and held on for the victory as the Valkyries could not get within four goals the rest of the match.

Lenoir-Rhyne showed offensive balance as six players scored two or more goals and held a 39-27 advantage in shots taken and a 42-40 edge in ground balls.

In goal, L-R freshman Allison Senft (Marietta, Ga.) was credited with the win after stopping six shots while Converse's Alexandra Gurecki (Farmingdale, N.Y.) suffered the loss despite totaling 14 saves in the contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne will return home to face Edinboro (Pennsylvania) on Saturday at Moretz Stadium beginning at Noon.? Converse hosts Kutztown (Pa.) on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
