Charlotte, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (6-13, 4-8) fell to Queens (12-4, 9-2) by a 3-0 score in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday evening at Curry Arena.
The Royals won by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-22 and remained in sole possession of third place in the league standings.
Queens, winner of three straight matches, was led by Meredith Jones (Blythewood, S.C.) with a match-high 20 kills while Sydney Kunz (Germantown, Wisc.) added 42 assists and nine digs as the Royals totaled 10 blocks and nine service aces in the victory.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, junior middle blocker Emily Steele (Greenville, N.C.) and senior right side hitter Brandi Thomas (Wilmington, N.C.) led the way with a team-high nine kills each in the losing effort.
Junior defensive specialist Ashley Markland (Conover, N.C.) added 15 digs and junior setter Kathryn Sizemore (Arden, N.C.) totaled 15 assists in the setback for the Bears.
The Bears also hit just .163 for the match and made four total blocks on the night as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road to face Brevard in a South Atlantic Conference match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., in Brevard, N.C. Meanwhile, Queens hosts Brevard Saturday afternoon in a league contest at 2:00 p.m.
