Spartanburg, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams kicked off the 2016-17 season by prevailing Saturday morning at the Montgomery Student Center on the campus of Converse College.
On the women's side, Lenoir-Rhyne defeated both St. Andrews (164-81) and Converse (145-117) while Converse held the 149-77 edge against St. Andrews. In the men's competition, Lenoir-Rhyne won over St. Andrews, 150-109.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Jacob Queen (Hickory, N.C.) prevailed in the men's 100-yard backstroke (1:00.05), men's 200-yard backstroke (1:56.59) and the men's 400-yard individual medley (4:10.95). Queen was also part of the Bears' men's 400-yard medley relay (3:34.82) which finished first.
Sophomore Jacob Sink (Advance, N.C.) was a member of the winning medley relay team as well and placed first in the men's 200-yard butterfly (1:58.54) and men's 100-yard butterfly (53.15) events.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior Noah McRea (Hickory, N.C.), a third member of the 400-yard medley relay squad, won the men's 1,000-yard freestyle (10:11.80) and men's 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.72) events.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams return to the pool for a dual meet on Friday, October 21, against Mars Hill in Mars Hill, N.C., beginning at 4:00 p.m.
