Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (7-14, 5-9) fell to Mars Hill (5-15, 4-9) by a 3-1 score Friday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Lions, winners of two straight matches, defeated the Bears by scores of 25-23, 26-24, 12-25 and 25-20 and avenged an earlier loss to Lenoir-Rhyne.
Mars Hill was led by Mary Kate Griffin (Weaverville, N.C.) with 17 kills and 11 digs while Lauren Hochstetler (Sarasota, Fla.) added 14 kills in the victory. The Lions' Sara Fahrenbrook (Golden, Colo.) dished out 50 assists as well as Mars Hill overcame eight service errors in the win.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, junior outside hitter Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) led the way with a match-high 19 kills to go along with 11 digs while senior right side hitter Brandi Thomas (Wilmington, N.C.) totaled 10 kills in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior defensive specialist Ashley Markland (Conover, N.C.) finished with 26 digs but the Bears suffered two-point losses in the first two sets and couldn't recover. Lenoir-Rhyne also hit just .139 for the match.
Lenoir-Rhyne does not play again until Friday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m., against Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference match in Anderson, S.C. Mars Hill faces Brevard on the road Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
