Mars Hill, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (7-3-1, 4-2) continued its mid-season surge with a 3-0 shutout victory over Mars Hill (4-6, 2-4) at Mears Stadium Wednesday night in a South Atlantic Conference contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior forward Ismael Noumansana (Reims, FRANCE) scored all three goals to lead the Bears to the win. Noumansana, the current conference player of the week, now has a league-leading 12 goals on the season.
Noumansana opened the scoring in the 39th minute and gave the Bears a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Noumansana put the contest away early in the second half with goals at the 55:47 and 64:31 marks of the match, respectively. Senior forward Mitch Botfield (Walsall, ENGLAND) and junior defender Kevin Nadeau (Morganton, N.C.) assisted on Noumansana's second goal of the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 17-8 advantage in shots taken and moved into a third-place tie in the South At Atlantic Conference standings with Catawba.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Zach King (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) made two saves in goal for his fifth shutout win on the year while Mars Hill's Kristopher Wennin (Miami, Fla.) suffered the loss despite making seven saves on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne faces Anderson in a conference match on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., in Anderson, S.C., while Mars Hill remains at home to take on Queens on Friday night beginning at 7:30 p.m.
