Jefferson City, Tenn. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (12-17, 10-12) stayed red hot with a 3-2 victory over Carson-Newman (3-27, 2-20) in a South Atlantic Conference match and regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Holt Fieldhouse.
The Bears, winners of five straight matches, pulled out the victory over the Eagles by scores of 29-27, 18-25, 16-25, 25-15 and 15-9 and swept the season series from Carson-Newman.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by junior outside hitter
Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) with 19 kills and 27 digs while senior setter
Emma Pope (Kannapolis, N.C.) added another double-double – 26 assists and 12 digs – as the Bears rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win sets four and five.
Carson-Newman's Marnie Streeter (Goldvein, Va.), despite the loss, finished with a match-high 20 kills and Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) added 46 digs but the Eagles hit just .088 for the match.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior right side hitter
Brandi Thomas (Wilmington, N.C.) also chipped in with 12 kills and 20 digs and the Bears totaled 18 blocks as a team in handing the Eagles their 13th straight loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne will be the seventh seed in the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Championship and will face second-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the quarterfinals in Harrogate, Tenn., on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
