Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Takes Down Second Straight First-Place Team, 3-1 Over Queens On Senior Night

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (10-17, 8-12) celebrated Senior Night in style with a 3-1 victory over Queens (19-6, 16-4) Tuesday in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bears, winners of three straight matches, defeated the Royals by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-22 and triumphed over their second consecutive first-place league school.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by junior middle blocker Emily Steele (Greenville, N.C.) with a match-high 16 kills while senior setter Emma Pope (Kannapolis, N.C.) added a double-double – 24 assists and 11 digs – in the victory.

Queens was led by Rebecca Cochran (Harrisburg, N.C.) with 15 kills while Sydney Kunz (Germantown, Wis.) dished out 39 assists but the Royals saw their five-match winning streak come to an end.

Junior outside hitter Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) added 14 kills and 16 digs for the Bears, who limited the Royals to a .123 hitting percentage and avenged an earlier loss to Queens. The Royals were also hurt by eight service errors and 15 blocking errors on the evening.

Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to face Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference match on Friday at 7:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn. Queens, meanwhile, plays on the road against Newberry on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., as well.
