Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 12 Mount Olive, 9-5, In 2016 Season Opener

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (0-1) fell to Mount Olive (2-0) by a 9-5 score Wednesday afternoon in its 2016 season opener at Moretz Stadium.

The Trojans, ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, were led by Riann Daziel (East Hampstead, N.H.) with five goals while Alysha Kulka (Calgary, Alberta, CANADA) added a score and three assists as Mount Olive rallied from a 4-3 halftime deficit to take the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by freshman midfielder Rachel Elmore (White Plains, Md.) with two goals and sophomore midfielder Aubriana Benedetto (Rochester, N.Y.) with a goal and an assist despite the loss.

Daziel, who has nine goals in the first two games of the year, tallied the match-winner with 24:56 left in the second half. 

Mount Olive held a 30-14 advantage in shots taken and held Lenoir-Rhyne to just one goal after intermission.

In goal, the Trojans' Hannah Knight (Rochester, N.Y.) earned the win after picking up six saves while sophomore goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) suffered the loss for the Bears despite stopping 11 shots in the contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne next travels to Gaffney, S.C., to take on No. 11 Limestone on Saturday at Noon while Mount Olive takes on Converse in Spartanburg, S.C., on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
