Franklin Springs, Ga. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (7-1) ran its winning streak to six games with a 6-5 triumph over Emmanuel (0-9) Sunday afternoon at Tommy Carey Field.
The Bears scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally from a 5-3 deficit and complete the weekend series sweep of the Lions. Emmanuel was hurt by a pair of errors in the frame.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by offensively by freshman catcher Zack Shoemaker (Colfax, N.C.) with three hits to go along with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning.
Junior third baseman David Newcomer (Archdale, N.C.) also drove in a run in the first inning for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Connor Dailey (Rutherfordton, N.C.) (1-0) earned the victory on the mound while senior Wes McGuire (Richmond, Va.) pitched a scoreless ninth inning and was credited with the save.
For Emmanuel, Parker Runnels (Auburn, Ga.) finished with two hits and two runs batted in while Aaron Westbury (Barnesville, Ga.) suffered the loss and fell to 0-2 on the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Limestone on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., at Bears Field while Emmanuel hosts Anderson on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
