Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Lacrosse Team (1-2) picked up its first victory of the year, 9-8 over Pfeiffer (0-2) Tuesday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior attacker Torrey Schwitkis (San Diego, Calif.) scored three goals – a game-high – while sophomore attacker Christine Faircloth (Winter Park, Fla.) scored twice as the Bears held on for the win.
Pfeiffer, which scored the final two goals of the contest in the last two minutes, were led by Angela Fratantuono (Pasadena, Md.) with three goals in the losing effort.
Faircloth broke a 4-4 tie with the match-winning goal at the 24:50 mark of the second half and was the first of three straight scores by the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne held the edge in both shots taken (25-22) and ground balls (28-21) while sophomore Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the victory in goal after stopping 12 shots in the contest.
For Pfeiffer, Whitney Jaffe (Cohasset, Mass.) added two goals and an assist while goalkeeper Cassidy Wilson (Centreville, Md.) tallied eight saves despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on Saint Leo (Florida) Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m. Pfeiffer, meanwhile, next hosts Lees-McRae Friday at 4:00 p.m.
